The restaurant suits those who appreciate hearty, well-executed Italian fare without fuss—whether it's a casual dinner for two or a small group looking to enjoy a leisurely meal.

The interior feels warm and inviting, with enough privacy in some seating areas to hold quiet conversations—a detail locals seem to appreciate, especially on weekend evenings. Service generally comes across as friendly and knowledgeable, though there have been mixed experiences regarding attentiveness, so guests who enjoy a little more interaction might want to visit during less busy hours.

Appetizers like the fried calamari and mozzarella are popular starting points, while dessert options, including Classic Vanilla Crème Brûlée and Dulce De Leche Cheesecake, provide a sweet finish, though opinions vary on consistency, particularly with the molten chocolate cake.

Visit Mulino’s in the early evening, especially on weeknights or early weekend slots, to enjoy a quieter dining experience where servers can be more attentive. The approachable atmosphere and classic Italian menu make it a solid choice for locals and visitors who want a fairly traditional Italian meal without the pretension—perfect for a date night or relaxed gathering with friends.

Great experience dining, worth the wait. Our server Kate was very nice and friendly. Enjoyed great time with my husband, it was my first time dining here. Definitely will be coming back!

Really enjoyed my visit here. The food and atmosphere were excellent! Only downside was the service. I know in this day and age we should be thankful for our wait staff because it's hard to find good help. My waiter was pleasant and kind but she failed to ask how the food was after it was delivered. She did not offer to refill my drinks, I had to ask after my meal was already completed. It was relatively slow for I dined around 4:30. Other than that the restaurant is beautiful and the food was amazing.

My pasta main was DELISH, creamy and lovely seafood flavor in the sauce, soft scallops and perfect al dente fettuccine. The eggplant parm was flavorful and penne cooked well too. However, the meatballs were quite disappointing, large but didn’t taste of much and were cold! What we were thoroughly disappointed by was the mahi-mahi, the risotto, and the molten chocolate cake. The mahi-mahi was tough and dry, the risotto was absolutely flavorless, and the molten chocolate cake was not molten at all, but rather felt and tasted like a sponge cake, was cold, and was clearly a frozen & reheated dessert. Tasted fine, but not worth the price and definitely not an actual molten chocolate cake (I take my molten chocolate cakes very seriously, and the Trader Joe’s frozen packs for 2 were more delicious & better value). So overall, very hit or miss. The pasta itself was SO good! An Amherst classic and our waiter Tom was so so nice :)

Mulino’s, an Italian restaurant located on Strong Avenue in Northampton, Massachusetts, offers classic Italian fare in a comfortable setting. We arrived on a late Sunday afternoon shortly after 5, and were greeted and seated immediately. Moments later, John, our very personable server, came to our table to take our drink order (a Malbec and Sauvignon blanc). The wine menu was extensive and offered bottles or glasses from the United States, Italy, and other parts of the world. After bringing our wine selections he took our meal order. Before our appetizer arrived, we were treated to two bread rolls with oil and garlic. The rolls came out hot and fresh, and were quite tasty. For starters, we opted for the garlic bread (optional mozzarella or gorgonzola cheese toppings are available, which in retrospect, we sadly chose to ignore). The appetizer consisted of two large slices of focaccia bread, brushed with garlic butter, and cut into triangles. The dough was light and crispy and overall delightful. The Maryland Blue Crab ravioli were the evening’s special, and it was a very smart choice. The ravioli were large, and although I wouldn’t say they were stuffed with crab, there was still plenty inside. The pasta was covered in a zesty lemon cream sauce, with spinach and cherry tomatoes. The dish was phenomenal. The Eggplant Parmigiana was another fine choice. Several thin slices of tender breaded eggplant resting on a bed of al dente spaghetti, and covered in a rich and savory house made tomato sauce. Dessert was offered, which we declined, since the rolls, garlic bread and pasta more than satisfied our appetites. My only complaint was that it took over an hour before we were served our entrees. However, on a positive note, we didn’t feel rushed and enjoyed our appetizer and a couple glasses of wine. Besides, the food was well worth the wait. Indoor and outdoor seating is available. Since Mulino’s is on the second floor of a three story building, the balconies offer an elevated view of the street and appear to be a popular choice, one I wish I had made. Street parking is available, and a parking lot is also behind the restaurant (free on Sundays, but one must pay by app or kiosk the rest of the week before 8 p.m.). Mulino’s is a must for those craving Italian fare. The restaurant is clean and very comfortable, the staff extremely polite, and the Italy-esque atmosphere – with traditional Italian music – is enveloping without being suffocating.

Absolutely outstanding food, service and atmosphere. We were seated quickly and in the corner with privacy. My husband and I recieved the best service from Jennifer. She was pleasant and knew the menu very well. The food can I say was amazing. The mozzarella appetizer is delicious. The garlic bread is perfect. We both ordered Alfredo. My husband got the crazy Alfredo and I had mine plain with chicken. Chefs kiss. We ended with dessert. We had the lemon cake with marscapone. Melt in your mouth! 5 stars all around. So impressed with Mulinos! Edit. Just finished our fourth visit to Mulinos with Jennifer as our server and the food was again outstanding. I wanted to add a few photos and mention my husband has tried many seafood dishes and has loved them all. I am a creature of habit so I always get chicken Alfredo which is always consistently delicious. We have tried the meatball appetizer and the meatballs are tender and flavorful. Along with the lemon cake we have tried the chocolate torte and cream Brulee. All the desserts are made in house from scratch and all are so darn good!!! We are always welcomed back and the staff knows us by name. The prices are so reasonable for home made Italian cuisine. 20 to 35 for entrees. 10 for dessert and around 11 for appetizers! Belissimo

We used their private room for our rehearsal dinner and the service was great. We arrived a little early but they got us into the space ahead of time. We had about 25 people all ordering individually and from start to finish only took about 2 hours. Our server was efficient and friendly and on top of all the different requests that we had. All of the food was delicious. We definitely will eat there again the next time we are in Northampton.
